FLANDREAU – In a battle of Flandreau’s amateur baseball teams on Friday night the Cardinals outlasted the Blue Teal, winning 3-2.
The Cardinals and Blue Teal were tied heading into the bottom of the eighth and a bases loaded hit by pitch sent the winning run home.
The Blue Teal took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth as Mason Riley led off the inning with a home run to left field. The Cardinals then answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Austin Koenig led off the inning with a single and Keith Cutler followed with a double. Koenig scored on a sacrifice fly from JaColby Anderson and Cutler scored on a ground out from Bret Severtson to make it 2-1 heading into fifth.
Severtson was walked with one out in the bottom of the eighth and Josh Edlund followed with a single. Luke Gassman was then walked to load the bases up. The Blue Teal got the second out of the inning but Koenig was hit by a pitch.

Michael Witte hit a one-out single for the Blue Teal in the top of the ninth and stole around to third, but Severtson, as the relief pitcher, got the next two batters out and the Cardinals sealed the victory.
The Cardinals only had four hits. Koenig was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Luke Gassman and Cutler were each 1-for-2. Edlund was 1-for-1.
The Blue Teal had eight hits on the night. Riley was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Tanner Christenson was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Sam Gassman and Paul McGlone were each 2-for-4 and Witte and Kolby Peters were each 1-for-4.
