It’s been a strong start to the season for a number of local high school rodeo participants, two of which seem to be following closely in the footsteps of an older sibling.
Jack and Jase Mousel have been a force to be reckoned with this season in team roping and individually in tie-down. The Colman-area twins will be seniors this fall and hit the high school rodeo circuit hard, qualifying for state in both events.
The two were disappointed however, that they came up short in Fort Pierre at the South Dakota State High School Rodeo Finals this past weekend, not making the short go in either event. The two have quickly turned their focus to the summer 4-H rodeo season with their sister, Josie, who made it to the High School National Finals Rodeo her senior year and now is on the rodeo team at the University of Wyoming, home for the summer and cheering them on from the sidelines.
Sutton Bunde, also heading into his senior at Colman-Egan, made it to state in Team Roping and Tie Down as well but failed to make the short go. The competition was tough, all of the boys said they had fun and they look forward to seeing what they can do this coming year.
Anya Hemmer meanwhile, who is heading into her sophomore year in Colman-Egan, was one of 4 freshman that did make the short go in goat tying. Hemmer took 7th in the average and tied for 11th overall.
All four contestants plan to continue competing in their respective events throughout the summer in 4-H rodeo as well.
