Construction on the new Fire Station in Flandreau is nearing completion. Workers with WS Construction, the general contractor, were on site this past Friday taking care of final details, including paint and electrical work.

The posters are ones many of us see each spring as we drive along Second Avenue in downtown Flandreau. But if you’ve only ever glanced at the Poppy Day project in passing, the artwork done by local third graders toward the end of every school year is worth stopping, even for a few moments, to admire.

Colman residents are urged to mark their calendars for an important informational public meeting scheduled for May 13, 2024, at 6 pm. The meeting, which will take place ahead of the next City Council gathering, will offer insight on upcoming sanitary sewer and water utility improvements.

This Saturday marks a significant milestone for both Flandreau and Colman-Egan School Districts as they celebrate their graduating seniors.

 Lawns across the county have gotten a bit long as temperatures warm up but the rain keeps coming. Few are complaining though as the moisture is a welcome sight after years of abnormally dry, if not drought-like conditions.

Made plans yet for your kids this summer? Registration is now open for weekday camps in Flandreau. Whether your kids love science, sports, art, and more, there are any number of camps available again this year for your young student to take advantage of. You may just need to act quickly to get them registered. Registration is open through May 15th.

Lawn service crews removed old landscaping and worked this past week on improvements to a downtown park area in Flandreau. The changes come as the city looks to update its look and opportunities for the space to be used more frequently by members of the community.

Moody County has a new addition to its summer calendar with the debut of Bulls and Babes Rodeo, set to take place on June 1st at 10 am. Nathan and Heather Hill, of the newly opened Grizzly Meats in Flandreau, plan to host the inaugural event on the land just south of their business on South Veterans Street.

Moody County’s National Day of Prayer service will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at the Moody County Courthouse’s Verterans’ Memroial, beginning at 12 pm.

ICAP hosted a free canning class on Friday where Moody County residents got to learn basics in water bath canning and food dehydration.

Colman-Egan senior and valedictorian Lanie Mousel is involved in extracurricular activities year-round, both academic and athletic. Despite her busy schedule, she also makes time to volunteer in the community and work part-time.

Academic awards night was held at Flandreau PUblic School on Monday, April 22. Freshman through seniors were awrded their academic letters.
