The Cardinals beat the Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks 9-4 on Friday and then lost to Canova Gang 18-5 on Saturday in District 4B play.

After winning their opening game of the District 4B Amatuer Baseball Tournament, the Flandreau Cardinals dropped their second game and will now be facing elimination.
The Cardinals beat the Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks 9-4 on Friday and then lost to Canova Gang 18-5 on Saturday.
Flandreau will play next on Thursday at 6 p.m. against the Hartford/Humboldt Gamecocks.

Friday
Flandreau 9, Hartford/Humboldt 4
The Cardinals came back from a 4-3 deficit and outscored the Wood Ducks 6-0 in the final five and a half innings.
Flandreau got on the board first with a run in the first inning. Jacob Patterson led off the inning with a single and Bret Severtson hit him home with a single to make it 1-0.
The Wood Ducks took the lead in the top of the second. They loaded the bases with no outs and scored a run on a line out. Then a two-run double made it 3-1 heading into the third. They scored a run on an error in the third to make it 4-1.

The Cardinals scored two runs in the bottom of the third. Patterson walked and Bret Severtson followed with a single. Patterson scored on an error and Bret Severtson came home on a passed ball to make it 4-3.
Flandreau then took the lead in the fifth. Walks from Patterson and Keith Cutler and a single from JaColby Anderson loaded the bases with one out. Patterson scored on a wild pitch and Grant Hieb hit an RBI single to make it 5-4.
The Cardinals added three more runs in the sixth. Luke Gassman and Bret Severtson each walked. Gassman scored on a single from Cutler and Severtson came home on a single from Austin Keonig to make it 7-4. Then Hieb hit an RBI single to push the lead to 8-4. Gassman hit an RBI single in the seventh to make the final 9-4.
Flandreau had 11 hits as a team. Cutler was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Hieb was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Koenig was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Severtson was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Gassman was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Patterson and Anderson were each 1-for-3.
Zak Wallner pitched a complete game for the Cardinals. He gave up four runs, three earned, on nine hits with 12 strikeouts and one walk.

Saturday
Canova 18, Flandreau 5
The Cardinals led 3-1 after the first inning but then were outscored 17-2 the rest of the way.

Patterson led off the game with a double and then scored on a Cutler single. Anderson then hit a two-run home run to make it 3-0. Canova then got a run back in the bottom of the inning with a sacrifice fly.
Canova took the lead in the third. An RBI single cut the lead to 3-2 and a three-run double made it 5-3. Back-to-back RBI singles extended the lead to 7-3 heading into the fourth.
They added three more runs in the fourth with both a solo and a two-run home run. The Cardinals scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Patterson and Severtson led off the inning with back-to-back singles and then Cutler was hit by a pitch to load the bases up. Patterson scored on an error and Severtson came home on a Brian McGuire ground out to make it 10-5.
A three-run home run in the bottom of the inning pushed the lead for Canova to 13-5. Then a sacrifice fly and an RBI single made it 15-5. A three-run triple then made the final 18-5 as Flandreau was unable to cut the lead under 10 in the seventh inning.
Anderson was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Cutler was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Koenig was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Hieb and Drew Weber were each 1-for-1. Patterson and Severtson were each 2-for-4.
Anderson pitched the first three innings for the Cardinals. He gave up seven runs, six earned, on eight hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Weber pitched the final three innings and gave up 11 earned runs on seven hits with one strikeout and three walks.
