Wiese wins LCC title Monday

Fliers, Indians ready to run into post season

CLEAR LAKE – Sioux Valley’s Carson Wosje and Flandreau’s Faith Wiese won medalist honors at the Lake Central Conference Cross Country Meet at Clear Lake Golf Course on Monda, October 7.

Boys
Wosje won the race with a time of 17:05.48. Deuel won the team portion with nine points and the Flandreau boys were third with 23.

Brenton Westberry came in sixth (18:10.35) and Logan Kontz came in seventh (18:11.23) for the Fliers. Daniel Hobbie finished in 13th (19:18.60),  Sam Schmidt came in 15th (19:31.45) and Nathaniel Hobbie rounded things out for the Fliers, coming in 24th (21:52.50).

Girls
Wiese won the girls 5000 meter race with a time of 18:19.24. The Fliers came in third as a team with 23 points. Clark/Willow Lake came in first place as a team with 16 points, outlasting Deuel who came in second with 17.

Calla Wiese came in ninth (21:13.37) and Josie Hamilton came in 13th (21:43.93). Morgan Sheppard finished in 15th (22:04.85), Tenley LeBrun came in 16th (22:15.56) and Kiley Westberry came in 17th (22:21.85).

At Sioux Valley Invitational

VOLGA – Flandreau’s Faith Wiese won the Sioux Valley Cross Country Invite at Meadowcreek Golf Course on Tuesday, October 1.

All that's left in the season are the Big East and Lake Central Conference, Region and State meets which begin this week.

Girls
The Flier junior finished with a time of 18:33.74 to earn the individual title. Sioux Valley’s Maci Licht finished in second with a time of 19:43.49.
The Cossacks came in third place as a team with 49 points.
The Fliers finished in fourth place as a team. Calla Wiese finished in ninth place (21:01.24) and Tenley LeBrun came in 20th (21:58.27). Kiley Westberry came in 21st (21:58.44) and Josie Hamilton finished in 23rd (22:12.01). Morgan Sheppard rounded things out for the Fliers, coming in 26th (23:02.59).
West Central came in first place as a team with 38 points. The Trojans narrowly beat out Clark/Willow Lake who had 39 points. The Cossacks came in third place as a team with 49 points.

Boys
Amos Rockman of Flandreau Indians came in 12th (18:58.81) and three Fliers took the next three positions into the chute. Brenton Westberry came in 13th with a time of 19:10.74, Logan Kontz came in 14th (19:15.50) and Nathaniel Hobbie finished in 15th (19:20.87).
Sam Schmidt came in 21st (19:39.07) and Daniel Hobbie finished in 23rd (19:49.15). Wyatt Kontz came in 24th (19:51.59) and Teague Bergjord, 25th, 19:52.09.

Also running for FIS, Lydell Nash was 33rd and Genio White Hawk was 47th.
The Fliers had 59 points as a team and came in third. West Central won the team portion of the race on the boys’ side as well as the Trojans had 25 points. Deuel finished in second (48). FIS did not qualify enough for team scores.
West Central’s Jonathon Roth won the individual race with a time of 17:12.91. Madison’s Dylan Gerdes came in second (17:16.68).
JV and Jr. High
JV runners competed in a 4000 meter race. Dreamer Cournoyer finished sixth for Flandreau in 19:59.93 and Rona Streitz was 10th, 20:36.48. Isabel Kulm took 13th, Marina Tharrat Lopez, 14th and Claire Wegner, 20th.
On the boys side, Franklin Donis Castillo came in second with a time of 16:14.62. Pedro Barona followed in eighth place, 17:19.02 and Creighton Arnett finished 13th, 17:54.12.
There was also a middle school run of 3000 meters and Coach Brendan Streitz took a couple of new to cross country seventh graders to the event.
Tayte Joachims and Etzio Bulit finished in 16th and 24th places, and for the girls, Ivy Wegner and Molly Kelm (8th grader) were 16th and 18th.
