Hertha Timm, 83, of Kensal, ND, currently living in Fargo, ND, was granted the gift of eternal life when she passed away on Saturday, March 16 in Flandreau, SD while visiting her daughter.
Hertha Lydia Puhlmann was born on June 16, 1940 at Eureka, SD, the first child of Walter and Magdalena (Maier) Puhlmann of Ashley, ND. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley. The family moved to a farm near Kulm, ND in 1943 where Hertha grew up and was confirmed at Kulm Zion Lutheran Church. In 1958 she graduated from Kulm High School and, in 1962, graduated from Jamestown College, now University of Jamestown, with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Hertha’s nursing career spanned 30 years in the areas of obstetrics, clinic, and gerontology. She was elected to the Board of the North Dakota State Nurses Association, serving for 5 years.
On August 11, 1968, Hertha married Louis Timm at Kulm. They made their home on a farm near Kensal where Hertha was a busy farm wife and became the mother of two daughters. She enjoyed being the wife of Louis, motherhood, cooking, gardening, sewing, quilting, and tending to the farm yard. She loved gardening and flowers. Hertha was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kensal where she was involved with Bible studies and teaching Sunday School. Attending her daughter’s school events, visiting family and friends, traveling, reading, bowling and the nursing profession brought her great joys throughout life. Hertha was also a great NDSU Bison football fan and enjoyed puzzles, playing cards (especially Pinochle), and attending strudel dinners in Fredonia with her sister and husband. She loved Wishek sausage and trips to Wishek.
Louis passed away in 2004 and Hertha remained on the farm south of Kensal until 2016.
