FLANDREAU — The Flandreau Fliers got a big day at the plate from Sadie Iott, but her four hits and five RBI weren’t enough to defeat Chester in a 13-11 loss on Friday afternoon.

The Fliers put themselves in an early hole as Chester scored four times in the first inning highlighted by a double by MaKaylyn Borecky and an RBI single by Lexi Bauman.

The Fliers cut into the lead when Iott tripled to drive in Jacey Sundermeyer and Layla Latterell in the bottom of the fifth inning but Chester responded by scoring eight times in the top of the sixth inning.

Jacy Wolf, Ramsie Shoenrock and Lizzie Peterson each delivered RBI singles and Ella Brown smacked a two-run double to fuel the big inning for Chester but Flandreau fought back in the bottom of the sixth.

Julie Pitsenberger delivered an RBI single to begin the rally and Iott hit her second triple of the game driving in Latterell and Pitsenberger to cut the lead to 12-6.

But Chester’s offense didn’t let up, adding an insurance run on a ground ball in the top of the seventh inning. Flandreau mounted a rally in the bottom of the seventh inning with Latterell getting things started with an RBI single. Pitsenberger drew a bases-loaded walk, Iott drove in her fifth run of the game with a single and Addy Hammer delivered a two-run single but the five-run inning wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.

Latterell finished the game 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI while Pittsenberger went 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and three RBI. Olivia Peters went 1-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base. Rylee Allen went 1-for-3 with a walk and two stolen bases. Sundermeyer walked three times and had a stolen base.

Peters started the game in the circle, allowing nine runs (seven earned) on eight hits and five walks with seven strikeouts in five innings of work. Veronica Shortman relieved Peters for the final two innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits.

Borecky finished the game going 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Wolf earned the win for Chester allowing 11 earned runs on 10 hits and nine walks with eight strikeouts over seven innings.

The Fliers dropped to 1-4 on the season and will host Dell Rapids on Tuesday.
