Blue Teal season record at 5-9

The Flandreau Blue Teal went 1-2 in amateur baseball action over the week. The Blue Teal lost to Colman and Dell Rapids PBR on Monday and Tuesday before beating Hartford/Humboldt on Sunday.

Flandreau is now 5-9 on the season and will host the Dell Rapids Mudcats on July 11.

Blue Teal season record at 5-9

The Flandreau Blue Teal went 1-2 in amateur baseball action over the week. The Blue Teal lost to Colman and Dell Rapids PBR on Monday and Tuesday before beating Hartford/Humboldt on Sunday.
Flandreau is now 5-9 on the season and will host the Dell Rapids Mudcats on July 11.

July 1
Colman 11, Flandreau 6
An eight-run third inning led to the A’s win over the Blue Teal.
Flandreau led 4-0 after the first inning. Paul McGlone led off the inning with a single and then scored on a single from Mason Riley. Gage Sharping then came to the plate with two runners on and hit one over the right field fence to put the Blue Teal up by four.
Neither team scored in the second and the A’s broke through in the third. The first run of the inning came on double and then a fielder’s choice made it 4-2. Another run scored on a passed ball and a bases loaded hit by pitch tied the game. Another run from a passed ball gave the A’s the lead and a two-run single put them up 7-4. The final run in the inning scored on an error and Colman led 9-4 heading into the fourth.
Sharping led off the fourth with a double and then scored on a single from Matthew Gassman and that cut the lead to 8-5. However, an RBI single in the fifth made it 9-5 Colman.
Sharping stayed hot in the sixth as he hit a solo home run with one out to make it 9-6. But Colman added two runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 11-6. Both runs came from a steal of home and the Blue Teal was unable to score in the top of the seventh.
Flandreau had 10 hits. Sharping was 3-for-3 with four RBIs and Riley was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Matt Gassman was 2-for-3 and Sam Gassman was 1-for-3. Ethan Hoffman was 2-for-4 and McGlone was 1-for-4.

Riley got the start for the Blue Teal and pitched five innings. He gave up 11 runs, six earned, on five hits with four strikeouts and nine walks. Kolby Peters pitched the final inning and did not give up a hit and had two strikeouts.

July 2
Dell Rapids PBR 8, Flandreau 2
Flandreau had more hits than Dell Rapids but had four errors and that led to the loss for the Blue Teal.
PBR took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second as they scored on a run on an error. They then went up 2-0 in the top of the third with a run on a single.
Flandreau got on the board in the bottom of the third. McGlone led off the inning with a single and then stole second. He came home on a single from Hoffman, making it 2-1 heading into the fourth.
Dell Rapids extended the lead to 3-1 in the fourth on a sacrifice fly. Then a two-run double in the fifth made it 5-1.
The Blue Teal’s second run of the game came in the sixth. Tanner Christenson led off the inning with a single and then advanced to second on a single from Sam Gassman. He then made his way home on a single from Tristan Peters and that made it 5-2.
PBR put the game out of reach in the eighth with three more runs. The first run came on an error and then the final two were from a passed ball and an error, making the final 8-2.
Flandreau had nine hits. Christenson and Sharping were each 2-for-4. Hoffman was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Sam Gassman, Tristan Peters and Kolby Peters were all 1-for-4. McGlone was 1-for-5.

Ethan Johnson picked up the loss as he pitched the first seven innings for the Blue Teal. He gave up seven runs, four earned, on seven hits with four strikeouts and nine walks. Hoffman pitched the final two innings and gave up one unearned run on no hits with one walk.

July 7
Flandreau 6, Harford/Humboldt Wood Ducks 3
Three runs in the final two innings gave the Blue Teal their lone victory of the week.
Flandreau striked first with one run in the top of the first. Christenson and McGlone walked to begin the game. Christensen then scored on a steal of home. The Blue Teal extended the lead to 2-0 on an RBI single from Tristan Peters in the second. Riley then hit an RBI double later in the inning to make it 3-0.
The Wood Ducks got one run back in the bottom of the second on a ground out. Hartford/Humboldt then tied the game in the sixth. Both runs came from passed balls and it was 3-3 heading into the seventh.
Neither team scored in the seventh and the Blue Teal regained the lead in the eighth. Sam Gassman led off the eighth with a walk and then scored on a double from Johnson.
Flandreau then added two more runs in the ninth. Sharping and Kolby Peters hit back-to-back one-out singles and Sharping scored on a fielder’s choice. Kolby Peters then came home on a single from Sam Gassman and the Blue Teal took a 6-3 lead into the final inning. Johnson then sent the Wood Ducks down one-two-three in the top of the ninth to secure the win.
Flandreau had 10 hits as a team. Sam Gassman was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Riley was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Michael Witte was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Tristan Peters and Johnson were each 1-for-3. Kolby Peters was 1-for-4 and Sharping was 1-for-5.
Sharping pitched six innings on the mound. He gave up three unearned runs on one hit with 10 strikeouts and two walks. Johnson pitched the final three and gave up no hits.
