Cardinals defeat Blue Teal in Sunday matinee

FLANDREAU – The Flandreau Cardinals and Flandreau Blue Teal wrapped up a busy week as the Cardinals defeated the Blue Teal 7-0 in an amateur baseball game on Sunday afternoon in the Flandreau City Park.

Cardinals defeat Blue Teal in Sunday matinee

FLANDREAU – The Flandreau Cardinals and Flandreau Blue Teal wrapped up a busy week as the Cardinals defeated the Blue Teal 7-0 in an amateur baseball game on Sunday afternoon in the Flandreau City Park.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the second inning when Austin Koenig reached on a bunt single and later scored on Brian McGuire’s RBI single. The Cardinals extended their lead in the top of the fourth inning when Zak Wallner led off with a walk and Beau Severtson drove him in with an RBI double.
Koenig singled again in the top of the fifth inning and scored on an RBI single by Grant Hieb before the Cardinals plated two more runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Keith Cutler and JaColby Anderson led off the top of the seventh inning with walks before Heib and McGuire each delivered RBI singles to put the Cardinals up 5-0.
The Cardinals scored their final two runs in the top of the ninth inning. Anderson hit a one-out double and Koenig followed up on a single before Anderson scored on a wild pitch. After Koenig advanced to third base on the same pitch Heib drove him in with a sacrifice fly for the final 7-0 score.

Schneiderman threw six shutout innings for the Cardinals, allowing two hits and striking out eight batters. Anderson followed up with two perfect innings with three strikeouts out of the bullpen and Tison Burggraff finished the game, allowing one hit in the ninth inning.
The Cardinals had 14 hits in the game. Koenig went 5-for-5 with a double and four runs scored. Hieb went 2-for-5 with a pair of runs driven in. McGuire went 2-for-4 with two runs driven in. Gassman went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks.
Anderson went 1-for-3 with two walks, a double and two runs scored. Bret Severtson went 1-for-5 with a double. Beau Severtson went 1-for-3 with an RBI double. Wallner and Cutler each drew a walk.
Ethan Johnson started for the Blue Teal, allowing three earned runs on nine hits and three walks with three strikeouts over six innings. Gage Sharping allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts over two innings. Kolby Peters allowed two earned runs on two hits with a strikeout in one inning.
The Blue Teal had three hits. Mason Riley went 2-for-4 with a couple. Kolby Peters went 1-for-4.
District 4B tournament begins Friday, July 26.
The Blue Teal are the ninth seed and will take on the Colman A’s at 6 pm on Friday.
The Cardinals are the seventh seed and will face #10 seed Humboldt/Hartford Wood Duck at 8 p.m.
