Shirley Duncan, 93 of Parker, died Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at the Tieszen Memorial Home, Marion, SD.
Shirley Ann Brandsma was born on August 15, 1928 in Flandreau to Epton and Amanda (Petersen) Brandsma. She attended school at Shady Lawn District #21 and Egan High School, graduating in 1946. She then attended school at Nettleton Commercial College for a secretarial degree. Shirley worked at various places before accepting a job at Sioux Valley (Sanford) Hospital as a Seamstress in 1966. She worked there for over 35 years, sewing everything from hospital gowns to curtains in the hospital room.
Shirley married Clifford Duncan on February 15, 1952 in Sioux Falls. They lived in Egan and Flandreau, then moved to Sioux Falls in 1964. Shirley eventually ending up in Parker in 1971. To this union, 7 children were born. Clifford passed in 1986.
One of Shirley’s favorite hobbies was gardening. She could be found most of the time out there taking care of the plants. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Senior Citizens. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Parker. Shirley’s favorite group was the 1928er’s.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clifford, grandson Eric Schoffelman, and sister Gladys Smith.  Shirley is survived by her children, Gail (Danny) Schoffelman, Parker, Nancy (Steve) Montgomery, Kansas City, MO., Les Duncan, Parker, Steve Duncan, Parker, Peggy (Bernie) DeLay, Lake Oswego, OR., Alan (Julie) Duncan, Parker, Susan (Todd) Schrick, Sioux Falls; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; and brother Richard Brandsma, Green Bay, WI., and several nieces, nephews and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in the First Presbyterian Church in Parker with burial at the Hill Side Cemetery in Egan, SD.  The date will be announced at the time of services.
