Richard “Dick” Ambroson, 81, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Good Samaritan Luther Manor.
Richard George Ambroson, son of Arthur and Anna (Nelson) Ambroson, was born May 11, 1937 in Flandreau, SD.  He grew up there and he received his education, graduating from Flandreau High School in 1955.  He attended Augustana College for a time, but returned to Flandreau to work at Ekern’s Hardware, where he learned the art of salesmanship and customer service. Richard was a member of the 147th National Guard Unit in Flandreau and trained at Fort Ripley in MN and Fort Sill in OK.
Richard started his professional career in 1959 when he began to work in the offices of DuAL Manufacturing in Sioux Falls.  He soon began hitting the road selling equipment for DuAL, travelling all over Minnesota, part of South Dakota, and part of Nebraska.  In 1993, he went out on his own, and became an independent sales representative for many agricultural equipment lines.
Richard met Gladys Hind in 1962 and the two were married on July 25, 1964.  They settled in their home in Sioux Falls in 1965, where they lived for over 50 years.  Richard and Gladys were blessed with a son, Eric, who was born in 1971.  After nearly forty years of selling equipment on the road, Richard retired in 2006.  He was able to spend more time with his coffee buddies and his grandson, Nicholas.
Richard was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls where he served as an usher for several years. He was a spiritual person, and he enjoyed reading the bible and other inspirational books.  He loved listening to country music, and accompanying his brothers on the guitar while they played traditional Scandinavian Folk Songs.
For years his mornings began with breakfast, coffee and “lively discussion” at the Sunshine Café & Fry’n Pan with his coffee buddies.  He also enjoyed getting his son, Eric, interested in golf, and playing several rounds together on courses in the area. Richard may be best-known for his sense of humor, and for being able to crack a joke in many situations. He also had the uncanny ability to take a nap at any time and any place.
Richard is survived by his wife, Gladys; a son, Eric (Tami) Ambroson, and grandson, Nicholas, Yankton, SD; a sister, Cindy (Rick) Drennen, Flandreau, SD; three brothers, Dr. Don (Tamara) Ambroson, Irvine, CA, Gerry (Diane) Ambroson, Sioux Falls, SD, Gene Ambroson, Phoenix, AZ; two brothers-in-law, Doug Chadwick, Rochester, MN, Gene Anderson, Sioux Falls, SD; and several nieces, nephews and numerous of cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Hazel Ambroson; his step-father, Raymond Buchholtz; three sisters, Kathryn Chadwick, Joanne Ambroson and Miriam Anderson.
Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm Thursday, March 14, at Miller Westside Chapel, 6200 W. 41st.
Funeral will be 10:30 am Friday, March 15, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 909 W. 33rd Street with interment at Union Cemetery, Flandreau, SD.
