Pastor Ronald D. Thoreson

Pastor Ron Thoreson was born on Aug. 23, 1938 in Flandreau, S.D. He went home to be with his Lord on July 6, 2019.
Pastor Thoreson was the son of Neal and Myrtie Thoreson. He graduated from Flandreau High School in 1956, from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. with a B.A. degree in 1962, and from Luther Theological Seminary in St. Paul, MN. with a Master of Divinity degree in 1966.  He was ordained at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Flandreau on June 12, 1966.
In 1960 he was married to Marilyn LeRud in Corte Madera, CA. To their union four children were born: Beth, Nathaniel, Karsten, and Matthew.
Pastor Ron served as a parish pastor in the Lutheran Church for 37 years, serving congregations in Spring Valley, CA. No. Hollywood, CA and Sacramento, CA retiring in 2003.
Pastor Ron enjoyed basketball, golf, and many other sports. He and Marilyn especially enjoyed travel and were able to visit many countries around the world. However, their favorite travel were the many family vacations visiting in Flandreau. His priority in life was his family.
Pastor Thoreson was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn in 2008; his parents Neal and Myrtie Thoreson; and three brothers: Dwayne, Marlyn and Pastor Roger Thoreson.  He is survived by his four children: daughter Beth (David) Geesey, Carsbad, CA. Son Nathaniel (Barbara), San Antonio,TX; daughter Karsten (David) Mouras, Rocklin, CA. and son Matthew (Lina),Carmichael, CA; ten grandchildren: Solveig, Maren, and Gabriel Geesey; Lucas, Kiana, and Sara Thoreson; Amanda and Max Mouras; and Emilie and Magnus Thoreson; three brothers: Laurel, West Fargo, N.D.; Pastor David, Custer, S.D. and Gary, Rapid City, S.D., and two sisters: Nyla (Buell) Donaldson, Tampa, FL. And Arlys (Dennis) Johnson, New Albany, IN.
Funeral services will be held on July 11, 2019 at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Sacramento with burial at Fair Oaks Cemetery, Fair Oaks, CA.
