Jimmy C. Jones, age 72, of Lake Madison, SD, formerly of Egan, SD, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at McAllen Medical Center, McAllen, TX.
Jimmy Charles Jones was born January 25, 1944, to Kenneth and Beulah (Gochnour) Jones at Chester, SD. He attended Egan School graduating in 1962. Jimmy was united in marriage to Beverly A. Smallfield on February 15, 1964, in Flandreau, SD. The couple farmed south of Egan for 40 years until retiring in 2002. They then made their home at Lake Madison, SD. In 1980 Jim and friend Alvin Ellefson started trucking and they formed their own business. After retiring from farming, Jim worked for Pam Oil of Sioux Falls until 2010. Through the years, he worked part-time at the Egan School, driving bus, Egan Bar, and sold Archer Oil. Jim along with other area farmers formed Egan Area Farmers purchasing the Egan Elevator in 1996 where he served as vice-president. Jim was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Moody County Pork Producers and Trent Odd Fellows. He enjoyed the summers at the lake with family and friends. The couple has been spending the winter in Donna, TX, since 2010.
Jim is survived by his wife, Beverly; two children, Dean (Lori), Webster, SD and Barbara, Phoenix, AZ; three step-grandsons, Tony, Corey, and Michael; his brother, Jackie, Mesa, AZ; his sister, Judy (John) Thies, Luverne, MN and nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Joy Lacher, and grandparents.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 19, 2017, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Flandreau, with burial in the Trent Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau.
