Harold A. Brendsel, 84

Harold A. Brendsel, 84, of Colman, SD, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2018 after a short battle with lung cancer at the VA Community Living Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

Harold was born November 26, 1933 to Knute and Lula (Juve) Brendsel in Baltic, SD. He graduated from Baltic High School in 1951. At the age of 17, Harold enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 14, 1951. He served aboard the USS Kankanee during the Korean War. After his military service, he returned home to Baltic and worked for his brother Rolland at Brendsel Electric. On July 9, 1955, Harold married LaVonne Nelson at the Colman Lutheran Church. After one year at SDSU, they moved to a farm near Colman, SD. Harold farmed and worked in the plumbing, heating and electrical field. In 1994 they sold the farm and built a house in Colman.

Harold was a member of the Colman Lutheran Church. He enjoyed many activities including his old timers slow pitch softball, golfing, shooting pool, hunting and gardening. His favorite was spending time with family, including his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Harold enjoyed striking up a conversation with anyone, anywhere at any time.

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife of 63 years: LaVonne; five children: Lonny, Madison, SD, Peggy (Stephen) Brookings, SD, Kelly (Kim), Colman, SD, Karla, Sioux Falls, SD and Kristi (Vic), Coal Township, PA; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Harold was preceded in death by his beloved son Larry, his parents, four brothers, Rolland, Robert, Roger, Donald and one sister Leona.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 26, 2018 at the Colman Lutheran Church with burial in the Colman Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. www.skrochfc.com
