Charlene R. Hay, 67, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018 at her home in Sioux Falls.
Charlene was born in Flandreau, SD, on October 20, 1951 to Harley and Esther (Hetland) Bennett. She attended Bell Country School and worked at Riverview Manor Nursing Home during high school. He was actively involved in Happy Youngsters 4-H group during her youth. Charlene graduated from Flandreau High School in 1969 and attended Southeast Vo-Tech to receive an LPN degree. She worked at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Charlene married William Hay in 1976 and they owned Hay’s Cowboy Paradise for a few years. Charlene was active in Luther League in high school and later led a youth group for Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Flandreau. She moved to Sioux Falls and worked for SD Advocacy Service until retiring in May 2017. Charlene then worked for SD Parent Connection where she had continued to work. She was a member of Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls and was active in bible study. Charlene was grandma to cousin Dale’s grandsons, Daniel and Samuel. She is survived by her stepbrother Bob Athey, Vista, CA, and many cousins. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents.
Her funeral service was held Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, with burial at Hillside Cemetery, Egan, www.skrochfc.com
