VFW Post 3351 bids farewell to local soldiers after training

The 1742nd Transportation Company recently wrapped up its annual training, leaving Flandreau with full bellies and renewed confidence in the community’s support.
On June 5th, members of VFW Post 3351 greeted the soldiers with donuts and rolls from The Flandreau Bakery, and coffee, expressing their gratitude and support as the troops headed to Sioux Falls.
The 1742nd, having logged thousands of miles during their training, appreciates the unwavering support from Moody County’s VFW.

“Flandreau is a special unit, and one of the reasons for that is the community support. We know we drill in a place that values us, but it’s nice to be reminded of it. Having veterans bring treats and send us off is pretty special,” said SSG Mike Aman, the Readiness NCO for the Flandreau Detachment.
VFW Post 3351 officially adopted the 1742nd in Flandreau and Sioux Falls in November of last year. This send-off is the second event they have hosted for the “Four-Deuce,” as the unit members affectionately call their company.
“Too often, we hear about Posts that adopt a unit when they deploy, and while they do a great job supporting their families while they’re gone, they let the adoption through national lapse after the welcome-home celebration is over. We know that Soldiers need support throughout their service, not just in the immediate aftermath of combat tours. Our adoption will not lapse. We’re in it for the long haul,” commented Randy Tollefson, Post Quarter Master and long-time member of the 1742nd.
With the continuous support from VFW Post 3351, the soldiers of the 1742nd Transportation Company can count on their community’s steadfast encouragement, ensuring they feel valued and appreciated throughout their service.
