Local Postmaster officially sworn in

After six months on the job, Emmanuel Bamba is officially sworn in as the Postmaster of the Flandreau branch of the United States Postal Service.
Since his appointment in March, Bamba had been waiting for the certification to arrive. With it now in hand, the Sioux Falls Post Office District Manager recently visited to make his role official.
Bamba said he feels fortunate to be part of the Flandreau team and to serve his home community. He praised the staff in Moody County, saying that they couldn’t be any more hard-working, loyal, and caring, which helps him do the best job possible.

Bamba has lived in Flandreau since 2008. He, his wife Hersy, and their son Drew moved from Solano, Nueva Vizcaya Province, in the Philippines to be closer to family and pursue opportunities in the U.S.
In 2012, Bamba started working as a part-time substitute mail carrier in Flandreau, covering Saturdays. He picked up additional hours in Dell Rapids, Madison, Pipestone, Slayton, and Brookings. By 2014, Bamba transferred to Brookings, where three positions had opened up.
That same year, in March, he became a naturalized U.S. citizen.
After working as a full-time carrier, Bamba took on his first supervisory role in 2019, overseeing customer service and managing 25 employees, including those at the Aurora and White offices.
Now back home in Flandreau as Postmaster, Bamba said he couldn’t be happier, adding that it’s been an honor to get to know so many more people throughout the county.
Bamba and Hersy have been married for 20 years. Their son Drew, 19, graduated from Flandreau Public Schools and now attends South Dakota State University. Their younger children, Kalel, 13, and Sophia, 8, both attend Flandreau Public Schools.
