Hawks host pair of doubleheaders last week

The Colman-Egan Hawks split a doubleheader against Baltic on Monday night as the girls team defeated the Bulldogs 56-31 and the boys team lost 68-38.
On Friday, the teams hosted Deubrook Area and again split the contests but this time the girls lost 38-28 and the boys team picked up a win, 57-56.
This week, the girls team finishes up regular season play on Tuesday at Iroquois/Lake Preston while the boys team played the Sharks on Monday night.
The boys team will host Canistota on Feb. 16 and travel to Sioux Falls Lutheran to close the regular season on Feb. 23.
After Tuesday’s game the girls will look to the post-season with the Region 3B tourney beginning on February 20. A site and opponent wasn’t determined by press time.

GIRLS
Colman-Egan 56, Baltic 31
The Hawks used a massive first quarter to lead wire-to-wire in a win over the Bulldogs in the first game of the doubleheader.
C-E jumped out to a 27-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and cruised into halftime with a 40-14 lead. The Hawks led 50-23 at the end of the third quarter and Baltic out-scored C-E 8-6 in the fourth quarter.
Brynlee Landis scored 16 points, grabbed two rebounds with two blocks and two steals in the win while Kaylee Voelker had 14 points, two rebounds, a block and a steal. Presley Luze had seven points, four rebounds and three steals and Elaina Rhode scored seven points with six rebounds, five steals and three assists.
Baylee Breece led Baltic with 11 points, eight rebounds and a steal while Caitlyn Pickett had seven points, five rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal. Meredith Larson also had six points and two rebounds.
C-E shot 34 percent in the game including 9-for-36 (25%) on 3-point attempts. The Hawks made 11-of-17 (64.7%) free throws, committed nine turnovers and out-rebounded the Bulldogs 36-25.
Baltic shot 33 percent in the game including 3-for-12 (25%) on 3-pointers. The Bulldogs made 4-of-7 (57.1%) free throws and committed 23 turnovers.

BOYS
Baltic 68, Colman-Egan 38
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead and led wire-to-wire in their win over the Hawks on Monday night.
Baltic led 15-9 at the end of the first quarter and went into halftime with a 33-20 lead. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 51-33 at the end of the third quarter and out-scored the Hawks 17-5 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.
Jack Erickson scored 34 points with four rebounds, four steals and two assists for the Bulldogs while Kellen Artz had 11 points, nine rebounds, five blocks and an assist. Dylan Runestad had seven points and a rebound while Beau Breece had six points, eight rebounds and three steals.
Jackson Zwart led the Hawks with 19 points while grabbing 10 rebounds and recording three blocks and a steal while Jase Mousel picked up a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and an assist. Jack Mousel scored two points and grabbed five rebounds with a block and a steal.
Baltic shot 40 percent in the game including 2-of-15 (13.3%) on 3-point attempts. The Bulldogs made 15-of-22 (68.2%) free throws, committed seven turnovers and out-rebounded the Hawks 47-28.
Colman-Egan shot 22 percent in the game including 6-for-24 (25%) on 3-point attempts. The Hawks made 6-of-15 (53.3%) free throws and committed 18 turnovers.

GIRLS
Deubrook Area 38,
Colman-Egan 28
The Hawk girls led briefly in a game with Deubrook Area, but the Dolphins came out scoring in the second half and took the win by 10 points with a final score of 38-28.
Both teams were cool from the field hitting percentages of 24 for the Hawks and 26 for the Dolphins. Colman-Egan couldn’t find the mark as they finished 11-for-57 from the field.

The Dolphins led after one period, 8-6 and after two, 12-11. They broke it open in the second half outscoring the Hawks 26-17.
Brynlee Landis made 10 points and Kaylee Voelker, seven in the loss which dropped the Hawks’ season record to 12-7. Voelker also made six steals.
Off the bench, Elaina Rhode pulled down seven defensive rebounds and Lanie Mousel made six total rebounds.

BOYS
Colman-Egan 57,
Deubrook Area 56
Playing against a Dolphin team stacked with seniors, the Hawks found themselves in a see-saw game in the fourth quarter with the lead changing often, but it was Jackson Zwart’s driving layup with 16 seconds left that secured the Hawk win, 57-56.
Zwart and Jase Mousel each scored 20 points in the win. Mousel was perfect from behind the arc netting 3-of-3 while Zwart was 2-of-2 and also gave out four assists.
Jack Mousel connected for nine points and made four steals on defense and Taylor Kriech added in eight points to complete the Hawk scoring.
C-E shot 44 percent throught the game just edging the Dolphins’ 43 percent.
Jase Mousel pulled down nine boards.
The Dolphins made 16 miscues, while the Hawks had 13, but the visitors outrebounded the hosts 48-38.
The Hawks are now 6-10 on the season and 3-5 in the Dakota Valley Conference.
