Flandreau’s girls’ basketball team picked up a couple wins at double headers last week while the boys’ team split in the two contests.
This week the Fliers hosted Baltic in doubleheader play on Tuesday to close out the girls regular season. Regions begin on Monday, Feb. 19 where Flandreau is expected to be the number one seed and should not play until Tuesday, Feb. 20 at home against an undetermined opponent.
The boys team will host Deubrook Area on Monday for their final regular season game.

Girls
Flandreau 67, DeSmet 34
DESMET – Clarie Sheppard scored 14 points against the Lady Bulldogs and in doing so became the all-time leading girls’ basketball scorer at Flandreau High School.
Sheppard surpassed former Flier Hannah Parsley who held the old record at 1,547 points. Sheppard will continue to add to her total during her final season as a Flandreau Flier.
The Fliers had no trouble defeating the Bulldogs. They led 20-2 after one period of play and 42-15 at the half. They extended their lead in the third quarter to 56-31 before winning, 67-34.
They shot 51 percent from the field as a team and 63 from the line where they went 10 of 16. They also outrebounded the Bulldogs, 39-28.
Lizzie Pavlis led the Flier scoring with 19 points (5-of-6 from the line) and she made eight rebounds and four assists.
Lily Klein connected for 17 points and she pulled down nine rebounds to lead the team in the category as well as steals with four.
Morgan Sheppard also dumped in 12 points to be the fourth Flier in double figure scoring.
Rejected shots were led by Claire Sheppard with seven and sister Morgan with four blocked shots.
As a team, they gave out 18 assists and were led by the gifting of Claire Sheppard with eight.

Hazel Luethmers scored 19 points for DeSmet.
The JV team won their contest by a 26-21 score behind 16 points from Madison Bushkofsky.

Boys
DeSmet 50, Flandreau 29
With a low 29 percent field goal shooting, the Flandreau Fliers lost, 50-29 to Class B third ranked DeSmet on the road.
“It was a frustrating game for us,” said Coach Brendan Shepaprd.
“We played very well in every aspect of the game, except we couldn’t make a shot. Shooting 1 of 17 from the 3 point line makes it really hard to compete with anyone...especially a ranked team.”
The Fliers efforts were led by Paul Parsley with 11 points and seven rebounds and Luke Sheppard’s nine points and five board. Xavier Bien gave out four of the Fliers six assists.
With the Bulldogs having lots of height on their side, the Fliers were outrebounded 39-19.
Kadyn Fast scored 14 along with Grant Wilkenson and Tom Aughenbaugh who added 10 each for the Bulldogs.
“I thought we played well defensively and handled the press well. We even had some good offensive efforts, but we just couldn’t finish the play.”

Saturday
Girls
Flandreau 65, C/WL 33
WILLOW LAKE – The Cyclones scored the first point, but it was all Flier ball after that Saturday as the local girls won their 19th straight game, 65-33.

Sadie Iott and Lily Klein both connected on 19 points on the road at Clark/Willow Lake.
Giving out eight assists was Claire Sheppard who also scored 11 points. Klein had eight rebounds and Sheppard, seven as the Fliers won the board battle, 41-30.
The Fliers shot 37 percent from the field and 83 from the charity stripe. They held the Cyclones to percentages of 27 and 67 respectively.
Morgan Sheppard also had six rebounds and Lizzie Pavlis, four assists.
Johanna Vandersnick and Tehy Vig both scored nine points for C/WL.

Boys
Flandreau 50, C/WL 31
The Fliers broke open a vitually even game after the half by dumping in 28 second half points to the Cyclone’s 11 to earn the 50-31 win.
The score was tied after one at 10 and then the Fliers got a late second period basket to go up 22-20 before heading to the locker room
The Fliers shot 45 percent (17 of 36) and held the hosts to 27 percent (11 of 41) and hit a respectable 12 of 13 from the line (92%). Rebounds were 26-25 in favor of the Fliers.
“We continued our good defensive effort with a gem against C/WL” said Coach Sheppard.
“We competed at a high level and made it really tough for C/WL to get easy baskets. Kody Kneebone and Xavier Bien did a nice job on that end. On the offensive side we still didn’t shoot great but made enough plays to get the win,” he added.
Luke Sheppard was the Fliers’ high scorer with 22 points and 10 rebounds and Paul Parsley put in 10 points and fed in six assists.
Emmerson Larson scored 11 for the Cyclones
Flandreau’s JV boys won over C/WL, 32-16. Alex Poitra dropped down 11 points and Kaden Burshiem, nine.
