CHAMBERLAIN – In their first Class A wrestling tournament, the five Flier participants scored 57 points and had three wrestlers bring home medals.
Flandreau was at the River City Rumble in Chamberlain on Saturday.
Brayden Wiese took second at 126, Karter Headrick third at 170 and Justin Klein fourth in the 145 pound class.
Wiese opened with a win over Van Long, wrestling unattached, which was Wiese’s 100th win of his career
“Brayden had an exciting day with not just making the finals but after his first match of the day he reached his 100 varsity win,” said Coach Cody Chamblin.
“Brayden is starting to get in the groove now getting some practice time in. He fell in the finals to a highly ranked kid and placed second on the day.”
He then pinned Iron Cloud of Todd County. In the semis, he pinned Donovan of Chamberlain before falling in the finals to number three ranked Hawkins of Sisseton, 1:24.
Klein opened with a pin against Hicks of Douglas/Rapid City Christian/New Underwood in 3:11 but then lost by fall to Christensen of Milbank, 1:11. He came back to defeat Odell of Mitchell in 1:15, but then lost due to an injury to Pankratz of Sioux Falls O’Gorman in the third place match.
Coach Chamblin said there were quite a few ranked wrestlers in the 170 pound class with Headrick.
“Karter showed up to wrestle beating a region opponent and ranked wrestlers,” said Chamblin.
