WHITE – The Flandreau Fliers boys’ basketball team closed out the regular season on Monday, Feb. 19 with a 52-38 win on the Deubrook Area Dolphins’ court.
"We had another good defensive effort against Deubrook,” said Coach Brendan Sheppard.
“There were a few lapses, but we made it tough for them to score in the half court. Offensively, we shot well from outside as a team. We had 14 assists to only 8 turnovers. We’re looking forward to region play."
With the scored knotted at six after one period, the Fliers broke it open a bit in the second period and scored 18 to the Dolphins’ 10. Deubrook won the third quarter 13-12 and the Fliers took over in the final frame adding 16 points to the hosts’ nine.
Topping the Flier scoring was junior Paul Parsley with points and Xavier Bien with 12 shooting 4 of 6 from 3 point range. Luke Sheppard aided his team with eight assists and three steals. Parsley pulled down eight rebounds and also had three steals.
Jake Jorenby scored 13 for the Dolphins.
Flandreau won over the Deubrook Area JV team, 41-31 behind 13 points from Alex Poitra, nine from Kaden Burshiem and eight from Julian Allen.
Flandreau ended with a 13-7 regular season record and is the third seed in Region 2A. Regional games began on Monday where the Fliers were matched up with Estelline-Hendricks. A win would have them playing the winner of the Hamlin vs. Deuel game on Friday, March 1 at the higher seed.
