Posted

Flandreau boys basketball hosted the first two nights of the Big East Conference Tourney last week and picked up two wins, but then faced an undefeated Sioux Valley team in the finals and were stopped and came in runner-up.
The Fliers are now 5-3 on the season and will travel to Madison Thursday night.
BEC game 1 vs. McCook Central/Montrose
FLANDREAU – Flandreau pulled away in the second half as they defeated McCook Central/Montrose 52-27 on Thursday night.
The Fliers took a 10-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and jumped ahead 24-16 at halftime. Flandreau broke the game in the second half, leading 35-20 at the end of the third quarter and out-scoring MCM 17-7 in the fourth quarter.
Paul Parsley led the Fliers with 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals. Luke Sheppard had 11 points, nine rebounds, two assists, one steal and three blocks. Kody Kneebone had six points and four rebounds.
Xavier Bien had five points, two rebounds, an assist and two steals while Alfie Henderson had five points, one rebound and two steals. Kaden Burshiem had four points, one rebound and one assist in the win.
““We struggled to find a rhythm on offense,” said head coach Brendan Sheppard. “We didn’t shoot well only making four three-point shots.  And (we) were careless with the basketball leading to too many turnovers.  However, we were fantastic defensively.  Only allowing 27 points and playing aggressively, but smart.”

Owen Alley led MCM with 10 points, three rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block. Ty Morrison had seven points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal. Lane Dentsch had five points, two rebounds and one assist and Ben Wiebersick had four points and four rebounds.
BEC game 2 vs. Baltic
FLANDREAU – The Fliers built a lead in the first half and pulled away in the second half to defeat the number two seed, Baltic Bulldogs, 58-51, in the BEC semifinals on Friday night.
Flandreau led 14-11 at the end of the first quarter and expanded its led to 25-20 at halftime. The Fliers extended their lead to 40-32 at the end of the third quarter and held on despite Baltic’s 19-18 advantage in the fourth quarter.
“Compared to our McCook Central/Montrose game we had a nice offensive game,” said Sheppard.
“We made shots, played unselfishly, and took care of the basketball.  Our crowd, and especially the student section, was great and we fed off that energy.  Again, a very balanced attack from us with many players contributing.”
Paul Parsley held the Fliers with 18 points while Alfie Henderson had 14 points. Luke Sheppard also scored in double figures with 10 points while Xavier Bien had nine points, Micah Otto had five points and Kody Kneebone had two points.
Jack Erickson led Baltic with 19 points while Ben Erickson had nine points and Mark Ditter had eight points. Beau Breece and Kellen Artz had five points each.
BEC game 3 vs. Sioux Valley
BALTIC – The Cossacks used a strong second half to pull away from the Fliers and win the Big East Conference Tournament championship on Friday night, 57-38.
Sioux Valley led 12-8 at the end of the first quarter and took a 28-22 lead into halftime. The Cossacks used an 18-9 advantage in the third quarter to take a 47-30 lead into the fourth quarter and out-scored the Fliers 10-8 over the final eight minutes to secure the title.
