Hawk girls raise season mark to 8-1

COLMAN – Mackenzie Hemmer scored a season-high 36 points on 13-of-18 shooting, and grabbed 12 rebounds, as the Colman-Egan girls’ basketball team moved to 8-1 with a win over Pipestone, Minn. during the Dakota Valley Conference Border Classic held Saturday in Colman.
The Hawks outscored Pipestone 26-2 in the first quarter to post what would be an insurmountable lead despite the Arrows outscoring Colman-Egan in the second, third, and fourth quarters.
Hailey Larson was the only other Hawk in double-figures with 11 points.
Pipestone’s Aubrea Kor led the Arrows with 29 points on 12-of-21 shooting.
Colman-Egan shot 48 percent (21-of-44) for the game and attempted 31 free throws in the contest, making 18.
Pipestone shot 40 percent, 20-of-50, and 7-of-22 from long range.
The Hawks held a slim 32-31 advantage on the boards.


CHESTER – Hemmer scored 25 points as the Hawks overcame a slow start to pick up a big win at Chester, 72-53 on January 11.
The Flyers outscored Colman-Egan 12-7 in the first quarter, then scored 22, 22, and 21 points in the final three quarters.
Hemmer also grabbed 15 rebounds in the game.
Berkley Groos, Reese Luze, and Brynlee Landis all scored nine points for Colman-Egan, while Hailey Larson and Ava Mousel scored eight points each.
Emerson Eppard led Chester Area with 22 points while Emery Larson scored nine.
Colman-Egan was 29-of-56 from the field and 8-of-21 from three-point range, while Chester Area shot just 21-of-62.
The Hawks posted a large advantage on the glass, a 45-27 edge in rebounds.
Colman-Egan was to travel to Garretson on Jan. 17 for a make-up doubleheader game with the Blue Dragons. Tuesday, was to be another make-up game for the girls team at Arlington and Thursday, the girls host Elkton-Lake Benton. Next Tuesday, they will host Castlewood.

Hawk boys lose to B-E

COLMAN – The Colman-Egan Hawks came up short on Monday, Jan. 10 when they hosted Bridgewater-Emery in boys’ basketball. Final score was 58-30.
Ben Zwart scored nine points and had three rebounds and Logan Voelker made eights points and also had three boards.
Jase Mousel chipped in six points and Sawyer Uhing put in five.
The Hawks had a cool 24 percent shooting from the field and were unsuccessful at the free throw line.
The Huskies were led by Sutton Arend with 26 points and 13 rebounds. They shot 41 percent from the field, but were just 3 of 15 from the charity stripe.
