Flier softball drops two at Arlington

The Flandreau softball team played a doubleheader against Arlington on Tuesday and the Fliers dropped both of the games.
The Cardinals won the games by scores of 19-9 and 17-13. Flandreau is now 0-3 on the season and will a doubleheader against Deuel on April 25.

Game One
Arlington 19, Flandreau 9 (5 inn.)
Flandreau took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Fliers were then outscored 19-5 the rest of the way and the Cardinals won in five innings.
Sadie Iott was walked to begin the first inning. Addy Hammer then hit a single and Iott scored on a passed ball to make it 1-0. Lizzie Pavlis would then single and Hammer scored on a passed ball. Pavlis would then score on a ground out from Olivia Peters, making it 3-0. The Cardinals then walked the bases loaded and Makenzie Gregory was hit by a pitch to make it 4-0 heading into the bottom of the first.
The Cardinals would respond with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Their first run came on a bases loaded walk and the next two came from back-to-back RBI singles. They then scored a run on a passed ball and took the lead on a bases loaded walk.
Flandreau would then tie the game in the top of the second as Pavlis doubled and later came home on a double from Peters.
The Cardinals then struck for three runs in the bottom of the inning. The first run came on a lead-off home run and the next two runs came from back-to-back singles, and it was 8-5 heading into the third.
Flandreau would get one run back in the top of the third. Gregory was hit by a pitch and back-to-back singles from Iott and Gregory loaded the bases up with two outs. Gregory then scored on a passed ball, but that was the only damage that Flandreau could do.

Arlington scored three more runs in the bottom of the inning. The first run came on a ground out and the next one came from a single. The final run of the inning came from a passed ball and the Cardinals led 11-6 heading into the fourth.
The Fliers then scored two runs in the top of the fourth. Julie Pitsenberger and Peters led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Pitsenberger scored on a passed ball and Peters scored on a ground out to make it 11-8.
However, the Cardinals then scored five runs in the bottom of the inning. The first two runs came from a single and Arlington then hit back-to-back triples that scored two runs. The final run of the inning came from a single and it was 16-8 heading into the fifth.
Flandreau scored one run in the top of the fifth. Iott led off the inning with a triple and then scored on a Hammer single. Arlington then scored three runs from a passed ball and a two-run double and that ended the game due to the 10-run rule.
Peters went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Hammer was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Iott was 2-for-3 and Pitsenberger was 1-for-4.
Peters got the start in the circle for the Fliers and she pitched two innings. She gave up 10 earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and six walks. Aly Schepel pitched the final two and a third innings and gave up nine earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

Game Two
Arlington 17, Flandreau 13
The Cardinals outscored the Fliers 5-0 in the third inning and that proved to be the difference in game two.
The Fliers struck for six runs in the top of the first. Iott and Hammer led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Pavlis then singled and Peters hit a triple and that gave Flandreau a 3-0 lead. Schepel then hit a two-run single and later scored on a ground out from Gregory to make it 6-0.
The Cardinals would answer with seven runs in the bottom of the inning. The first two came from a two-run single and they scored two more on another two on a passed ball and a single. Arlington then tied the game with a two-run single and an RBI double gave the Cardinals the lead through one inning.
Flandreau would answer with three runs in the second. Iott and Hammer would lead off the inning with back-to-back singles once again. Pavlis then hit a triple and both runners scored. She then scored on a ground out from Peters, making it 9-7.
Arlington would tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the inning. The first run came on a single and the next one came from a double.
Then the third came and that changed the game. Flandreau went down one-two-three and the Cardinals struck for five runs to take the lead. The first run came from a ground out and Arlington then scored two on an error. It was 14-9 after the third.
Flandreau got two runs back in the top of the fourth. Peters and Pitsenberger each walked with one out. Schepel then hit both runners home with a single.
Arlington scored two runs in the bottom of the inning, one on a home run and the other on a triple, making it 16-11. Neither team scored in the fifth.
Flandreau scored two in the fifth from an RBI double from Peters and an RBI single from Pitsenberger. Arlington would add one more run in the bottom of the sixth and the Fliers would go down one-two-three in the seventh to end the game.
Flandreau had 15 hits as a team. Schepel went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and Peters went 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Pavlis went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Pitsenberger went 1-for-2 with an RBI and Hammer went 3-for-5. Iott went 2-for-5.
Peters pitched a third of an inning and gave up six earned runs with four walks. Schepel then pitched two innings and gave up six runs, four earned, on six hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Nora Hamilton would pitch the final three and two-thirds innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts and no walks.
