Charles G. “Charlie” Short, 68, of Aurora, died Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the Brookings Hospital. Charlie was born on December 2, 1949 at Brookings, SD to Donald and Isabelle (Gebhart) Short. He was raised near Aurora and attended Sunny Corner District #83 Country School and graduated from Elkton High School in 1968. Charlie enlisted in the US Army on November 29, 1968 and served in Vietnam for 14 months a member of Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 7th US Calvary until his discharge on July 5, 1970. He returned to farm near Aurora where he was a lifelong farmer. He owned Charlie’s Bar in Aurora for several years. He was a lifelong member of St. William’s Catholic Church where he had served on church council, served on the Trenton Township board where he served for many years, Pike-Huska American Legion Post #230. In 2005 Charlie attended the Cincinnati Ohio Vietnam Reunion and in 2006, the Vietnam Era Memorial Dedication in Pierre, SD.

Charlie is survived by 2 children: Vikki Robertson (Pete DePuma) and Chad (Kaydee) Short; 9 grandchildren, Amanda (Jared), Emily, Grace, Ellie, Ryan, Brianna, Brittany, Chaddy, Julianna; 5 Great grandchildren, Chloe, Gunnar, Sienna, Maverick, Dakota; 6 siblings, Mary (Gary) Messerli, Ed (Vanessa) Short, Robert (Mary Jane) Short, Joseph Short, Susan (Doug) Nelson and Father John Short; many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.  Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Isabelle and his loving companion, Darlene Robinson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 25, 2018 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Brookings, SD, with burial to follow in St. William’s Catholic Cemetery, Aurora.  Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. William’s Catholic Church, Aurora, with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service followed by the Rosary.
