Rosemary Ellen “Rosie” Schipper, age 71, of Flandreau, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 15th at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau with burial to follow at Lone Rock Cemetery, rural Flandreau. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Rosie was born on December 6, 1951, to Frank and Doris (Mohror) Bunker in Volga, SD. She grew up in rural Arlington, SD, before moving with her family to Flandreau, SD. Rosie graduated from Flandreau High School in 1970.
Rosie was united in marriage to Steve Schipper in 2001. Together, they operated a trucking company, hauling mainly livestock. Rosie also worked for the Flandreau Bakery later in life. Steve passed away in 2014.
Rosie will be remembered for her kindness, and how she encouraged kindness and acceptance in others. Rosie was an avid reader, particularly westerns. She and Steve watched every western movie there was to watch. She proudly displayed the American flag and supported the military, police, and first responders. Rosie loved animals. When she could no longer have a pet, she fed the squirrels as a substitute. She was stubborn, and that is what made her strong. Rosie was easy to get along with and quick to laugh.
Survivors include her brothers, Dick (Sharon) Bunker of Pequot Lakes, MN, Keith Bunker and Brian Bunker both of Flandreau; stepchildren, Travis (Becky) Schipper of Rock Rapids, IA, and Lehni (Shannon) Olson of Egan, SD; five step-grandchildren, Cael, Tynan, Johnalin, Micah, and Rylah; and numerous other relatives and friends.
