Ronald B Herrick 84, of Aurora, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2023 at his home under hospice care.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Rude’s Funeral Home, in Brookings followed by a committal service with military honors at Fairlawn Cemetery in Aurora. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday, April 19 at Rude’s Funeral Home.
Ronald Bruce Herrick was born June 24, 1938 in Moody County SD, the son of Carlton and Minnie (Hopkins) Herrick. He attended school in Elkton and did not graduate as he went on his own and was a hired hand. He enlisted into the Army and served from 1961 to 1963. He was stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge, he married Jeanne (McCord) Herrick on August 9, 1968. He began farming by White and Elkton before starting his plumbing and heating career with Scheesley Plumbing out of Mitchell, SD. This position had him traveling to other states for his employment. He then worked for several other plumbing companies and retired at 72 working for Redlinger Brothers out of Watertown, SD.
Ron liked to go fishing, camping, and hunting. He liked to dance and play cards. He was a builder. He built and remodeled two homes that he was proud of. Ron was known for his potato salad and apple pie. He was a jokester, loved to laugh, and could be a pot stirrer.
He is survived by daughter, Tammy Herrick of Aurora, SD; brother, Roger (Nancy) Herrick of Bushnell, SD; two sisters, Barbie (Alvin) Anderson of Flandreau, SD and Kathy Herrick of Brookings, SD; three sisters-in-law, Nancy Herrick of Flandreau, SD, Peggy Herrick of Rutland, and Judy Sherrard of Springfield, MO, and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Ron is preceded in death by wife, Jeanne; his parents; five brothers, Lauren, Maynard, Edward, Vince, and Allen and two sisters, Sharon and Marilyn.
