Mortimer “Morty” Hahn, 82, formerly of Colman, SD, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the United Living Community in Brookings.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Colman Lutheran Church in Colman.  A time of fellowship will immediately follow the service at the church, with a meal to be served.  Skroch Funeral Chapel is assisting the Hahn family with arrangements.
Morty Hahn was born on April 25, 1941, to John and Frances (Voeltz) Hahn in Madison, South Dakota, the first of his ten siblings to be born in a hospital. Throughout his youth, the family moved from Madison to a farm near Chester, eventually settling at a farm near Colman, South Dakota, where Morty remained until his health declined.
Morty graduated from Colman School in 1960.  In 1963, Morty was united in marriage to Lavonne Barenklau, and to that union three children were born: Corey, Troy, and Marne.  The couple was married 28 years, until their divorce in 1991.  In 1993, Morty married Brenda Pfeiffer.  They were married for 23 years, later divorcing.
Morty joined the National Guard in 1960.  In 1964, Morty began working at T&R Electric Supply Company in Colman, in fact, he was the very first T&R employee.  He later went on to farm the family farm near Colman. Farming was Mort’s passion, and he truly loved farming the land and raising his cattle.  Also in 1964, Morty began racing modified cars with his brothers at the Interlakes and Huset’s racetracks.  The brothers greatly enjoyed the friendly competition, at one point even holding a “grudge” match together.  Morty retired from racing in the early 1970s.  One of Morty’s greatest joys in life was playing cards with his brothers and friends.  Morty, along with his brothers Willard, Rod, and Amos, loved playing pinochle games together, even to the point of playing during vacations to California rather than seeing the sites.  He also greatly enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Morty is survived by his children: Troy (Sandy) Hahn, of Wentworth, SD,  Corey (Jody) Hahn, of Colman, SD, and Marne Kay Hahn, of Henderson, NV; grandchildren: Chris (Katie) Hahn, of Madison, SD, Jeff (Courtney) Hahn, of Egan, SD, Al (Cassandra) Hahn, of Wentworth, SD,   Jessica (Austin) Weig,  of Leola, SD, Jacob Hahn, of LeMars, IA, Alex Hahn, of Colman, SD, Maci Hahn, of Colman, SD, Natasha Hansen, of Lawrence, KS, Andrea (Dylan) West, of Canton, SD, and Arianna Hahn, of Henderson, NV; great-grandchildren: Cohen, Boyd, Landrie, Lo, Hayes, Willa, Leon, Lennon, Ledger, Oaklynn, and Dominic, ; step-children: Angela (Louis) Bedard, and their children: Celia and Ellie, of Hutchinson, MN, Robert Pfeiffer, of St. Cloud, MN, Anthony (Katie) Pfeiffer, and their children: Julia, Diane, and Emily, of Asheville, NC; and his siblings: Rod, Johnny, Sandra, and Delda.
