Should Moody County double check that its electronic vote tallies are correct by doing a follow-up hand-count?
County Commissioners will discuss a formal request on the matter this week. Gwen Reker, the wife of Commissioner Dave Reker, broached the Commission about the issue during its last regularly scheduled meeting in March.
Reker says the matter isn’t about not trusting the electronic machines or county staff, she simply believes that it is imperative that each certified vote is counted — and right now “voting does not have a double check”, she told them.
“When you get your bank statements, you do not receive just the bottom dollar amount in your account. You get a history of transactions. Our votes are our currency with regards to elections,” said Reker.
