Maryann “Lucy” Wendell, 84 of Egan, SD, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2023 at Palisade Healthcare Community in Garretson, SD.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Friday, July 14, 2023 at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau, SD. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the funeral service.  
Lucy was born on May 17, 1939 to William and Polly (Nybo) Ross in Tracy, MN. Her family lived in several places throughout her childhood before settling in Colman, SD. On August 2, 1975 she married Francis Wendell and they lived on a farm in rural Egan, SD where they raised their seven children together.
Several things that were known to bring her joy included; her morning coffee and a Flandreau Bakery roll, eating vanilla ice cream while watching a Hallmark movie and traveling to see her children and grandchildren which many times included stopping at a casino along the way. She took pride in keeping an immaculate home, having an impeccable manicure at all times and the world’s softest hands. Her compassion for others and her loving heart were a blessing to her family and friends.
Lucy is survived by her seven children; Tammy Wendell, Becky Wiechers, Lori Wendell, Jolie (Curt) Shippy, Steve (Tammy) Wendell, Rick (Lisa) Witczek and Sue Wendell; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren: brother; Kenny (Jan) Ross, sister; Sharon Jaacks and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Francis Wendell, grandson; Zach, parents; William and Polly Ross, sister; Betty and brothers; Jim, Dick, Gary, John and Ronnie.
