Marlys Mae Anderson, age 88, of Trent passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at her home in rural Trent.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Colman, SD. Burial will follow at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Dell Rapids, SD. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 20 from 5:00-7:00 PM with a 7:00 Vigil Service at the Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids, SD.
Marlys Mae Anderson was born at home near Colman, SD, on May 1st, 1935, to Selmar and Ruth Nelson. She grew up around Trent, SD, and attended the Trent School System. Marlys married Lee Anderson on January 26, 1955. Lee and Marlys farmed for more than 38 years all around the Trent area. Marlys worked as a waitress at the truck stop near Colman and at the bar in Colman and Dell Rapids. She was the bookkeeper for the farm and for the painting business, Lee Anderson and Sons Painting. Marlys belonged to St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Colman, SD, and to the Catholic Daughters in Dell Rapids. She loved dancing with her husband at the R-Kota Ball Room and the Moose Lodge in Sioux Falls, SD. Marlys and Lee also enjoyed wintering in Texas for over 15 years and made many new friends. In her later years, she enjoyed baking and cooking and always had a fresh pot of coffee and her front door open for company. Marlys and Lee spent many years baking, cooking, and helping with Life Scape and Dakota Ability. They were married for 67 beautiful years and shared many moments of laughter and love with their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Marlys passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the farm she lived on for 65+ years. Marlys is survived by her son Lee (Lisa) Anderson of Chugwater, Wyoming; daughter, Pam (Bob) Dickey of Trent, SD; Terry (Denise) Anderson of Trent, SD; Kevin (Shellie Bluhm) Anderson of Dell Rapids, SD; daughter Julie (Dan) Kirlin of Avoca, MN; 23 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren; brother Charles (Esther) Nelson of Sioux Falls, SD; sister Doddi Nordyke of Louisville, Ky. The family of Marlys Anderson would like to extend their gratitude to the teams at both Right at Home and Avera Hospice for supporting her care and enabling her to live out her days on her farm.
