Mark Bruce Johnson, 68, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at his residence.
Upon his request, there will be no funeral service being planned.
Mark was born on August 21, 1955 in Gregory, SD to Harris and Dolores (Nelson) Johnson. He received his education at South Dakota School for the Deaf and graduated in 1974. He went to Gallaudet College in Washington, D.C.
He worked at Communication Service for the Deaf as a sign language instructor, historian, and many other roles. He also worked at Augustana College in ASL Lab. He was an ASL Instructor at Southeast Technical Institute where many of his students were under him and became his longtime friends. He worked as a mentor for the students who studied to become an ASL interpreter.
Mark enjoyed quilting, embroidery, crochet afghans and toys.
He loved his volunteering work by doing research on Deaf community and was involved in many different deaf activities. He was known as Deaf Activist for Deaf Community. He gave all of his knowledge, expertise and skills. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Grateful for having shared his life are LaDonna Haake of Sioux Falls, SD, Terry Johnson (Nancy) of Colorado; his 4 nieces and nephews and many relatives and friends.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Harris and Dolores Johnson, grandparents, and brother, Dennis Johnson.
