Maggie Day 68, passed away at the Avera Hospital in Flandreau on June 29th, 2023 with her family surrounding her. Funeral Services were held 11:30 am on Monday, July 3, 2023 at the Flandreau United Methodist Church with burial on July 6, 2023 at Riverside Cemetery in Huron, SD.
Margaret Mary Reilly was born February 10, 1955 in Huron, SD to her parents Rosemary and Gale Reilly. Maggie attended school and graduated from Huron High School in 1973. Following high school Maggie attended school at Huron College and graduated in 1977 with her LPN. She then attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell and graduated in 1981 with her degree as a Registered Nurse. Maggie worked numerous nursing jobs over 38 years beginning in Yankton, Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls, and Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls (now Sanford). While nursing she met her future husband, Douglas Day. Maggie moved to Flandreau in 1992 and started work at Riverview Manor. Doug and Maggie were married in June of 1994, and they brought their son Adam into the world in August of 1996. After taking a few years off to raise Adam to school age Maggie went back to work at Riverview Manor in Flandreau, where she worked for twenty years.
Maggie enjoyed rummaging and garage sales as often as she could. Her and Doug would constantly stop on trips to find rummage sales or antique stores, even if it meant taking their pickup and boat down dead-end roads. She was an avid reader with a collection of numerous novels, she also had many smaller hobbies like crochet, and made several blankets. T.V. programs became very important with interests in history, crime stories, ghost stories, and the ever-popular Hallmark Channel.
A very special passion of Maggie’s was the numerous cousins who she kept in close contact with and loved to spend special “Girls Weekend in the Hills” together with.
She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Douglas; their son Adam Day and his wife Jill; her grandson Morgan Day; Aunt Joan Vickerman; Brother-in-laws Denny (Paula) Day and Kenny (Julie) Day; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and the countless number of people Maggie touched in her life.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother Anna Reilly who helped raise her; parents Gale and Rosemary, mother-in-law, Ardis Day, and her Aunt Kada McCann.
