June Lavonne Schroeder, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Her Funeral Mass was held Monday, June 19, 2023 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux Falls.
June was born on June 6, 1928 to Albin and Dorothy (Doyle) Erickson at her grandparents’ home in Flandreau, SD. She attended country grade school and graduated from Rutland High School in 1946. On June 10, 1950, June married Roy F. Schroeder in Brookings, SD. He was a farmer and June worked for Northwestern Bell for 5 years. In February of 1955, she moved to Denver, Colorado and worked for Mountain State Telephone Company. She later moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa and began working for Iowa Finance Company which was later acquired by Avco Finance. In total, she worked for the company for 23 years. June returned to Sioux Falls and began working as a property clerk at the Courthouse Administrative and Equalization office from which she retired in 1994. She returned to working for them part-time after retirement until 2008.
June had no children, but was a fun-loving aunt to her nieces and nephews and she enjoyed the company of many friends. June was fond of playing cards and completing puzzles, especially crosswords. She also loved to dance.
Grateful to have shared June’s life with her are her sister-in-law, Betty Erickson; her many nieces, nephews, grand- nieces and nephews, and great-grand- nieces and nephews; many cousins; and her beloved friends, including her special call caregiver, Gwen Arichego. She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Schroeder; her parents, Albin and Dorothy Erickson; her brothers, Dean and Dale Erickson; her sisters, Arles Fassett and Mavis Layton; and her niece, Dianne Ammann.
