Gilbert “Gib” G. Cadotte

Gilbert George Cadotte, age 58, of Flandreau, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribal Care Center. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at St. Mary’s Our Blessed Redeemer Episcopal Church in Flandreau, SD.  Interment in First Prebyterian Cemetery, Flandreau.
Active pallbearers were Ben Cadotte, Justin Cadotte, Perry Lufkins, Larry Herrick, Steven Cadotte, Lucas Stickney, Lou Herrick, Joe Thorne. Honorary bearers were Bill Stickney, Custer Demery, Benjamin Beautiful Bald Eagle, Timothy Lawrence Cadotte, Austin Wetto Make Peace, Bobby Peters, Kevin Payer, Randy Bernard.
Gilbert George Cadotte Jr. was born in Flandreau, SD on July 11, 1965, to Gib Sr. and Wanda (Robertson) Cadotte. He grew up in the Midwest as his parents traveled around the state; to name a few, Colman, Pierre, Mobridge, Fort Yates, and Wagner. His final place of residence was Flandreau. He obtained his GED in 1984 and joined the SD Army National Guard that same year. He served in the military as a motor transport operator. Gib was honorably discharged in 1990. Gib worked road construction most of his life. He was a hard worker who loved what he did. He made friends with fellow coworkers and bosses that lasted a lifetime. While living in Mobridge in the early 2000’s, he reunited with his high school sweetheart, Cathy (Schlepp) Clark, and to this union a son was born. Gib named him Gilbert Benjamin Cadotte. Gib loved and cherished his son dearly. Gib was proud to be Lakota Sioux he was a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. He loved the great outdoors. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, hiking, riding his motorcycle, attending powwows, riding horseback, country music, and watching westerns.
Gib is survived by his only son, Gilbert Benjamin Cadotte of Sioux Falls; his oldest and only sister, Carol Marie Seward Cadotte; his older brothers, Ben and Tim Cadotte, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of Flandreau.
Gib was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Geroge Cadotte Sr., his mother Wanda (Robertson) Cadotte, and his younger brother, Steve Cadotte. Gib will be dearly missed. He was a strong, resilient fighter with a positive attitude to the end of life.
