Genette Rusk, age 83, of Flandreau, SD, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Riverview Healthcare Center in Flandreau, SD. Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau, SD. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00PM to 7:00PM on Friday, January 19, 2024 also at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau, SD.

Genette was born on August 15, 1940 in Colman, SD. She was the 14th of 15 children and the 11th girl to Eldo and Gladys (Benson) Friman. She attended Turner County School District #40 from first to eighth grades and then Hurley High School 9th grade to 12th grade graduating in 1958. She attended Nettleton Community College in Sioux Falls for secretarial school and Graduated with a Junior Secretarial Degree.

She was employed at First National Bank in Sioux Falls from 1959 to 1966. She was then united in marriage to Kenneth Rusk on October 22, 1966 in Sioux Falls. The couple made their home in Flandreau. On January 6, 1968 the couple had their daughter, Sally Ann. Genette had an in-home daycare from 1969 to 1978. She then went to work for the city of Flandreau, she worked in the city office for 28 years to the day retiring in May of 2006.Genette loved to play cards, fishing, bowling, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Sally Rusk; grandson, Jordan Rusk; great-grandson, Lincoln Rusk, all of Flandreau, SD; sister, Margaret Adel, White, SD; sister-in-law, Dorothy Friman, Tripp, SD; and brother-in-law, George Sample, Flandreau, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eldo and Gladys Friman, husband, Kenneth Rusk, three brothers, Eugene, Kenneth aka, Jim, and Richard, 10 sisters, Dorothy Hansen, Geraldine Lechner, Vivian aka Minnie Friman, Frances Gossel, Marion Straw, Edith Moe, Doris Cordell, Audrey Sample, Eleanor Bjerkaas, and Carolyn McMahon; nine brothers-in-law, Lester Hansen, Bob Lechner, Herb Gossel, Dwayne Straw, Donald Moe, Victor Cordell, John Adel, Robert Bjerkass, and Loren McMahon, and sister-in-law, Phyllis Friman.
