Area girls basketball teams began region playoffs on Tuesday night and five teams advanced. Flandreau, Arlington, Iroquois/Lake Preston, Deubrook Area and Colman-Egan all advanced to the semifinals and are a game away from the SoDak 16.
FLANDREAU – The Fliers advanced to the semifinals of Region 2A with ease.
Flandreau led 15-5 after the first quarter and took a 37-17 lead into halftime. The Fliers extended the lead to 51-28 at the end of the third and were able to cruise to the victory in the region quarterfinals.
The Fliers were led by Lily Klein who had 18 points and five rebounds. Lizzie Pavlis had 17 points and five rebounds. Claire Sheppard had a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists. Sadie Iott had 11 points and eight steals.
Clark/Willow Lake was led by Brynn Roehrich who had eight points. Shelby Bageman had seven points.
The Fliers are now 21-0 and will play No. 4 seeded Sioux Valley on Thursday at 7 p.m. The winner advances to the Class A SoDak 16.
ARLINGTON – The No. 1 seeded Cardinals had no problem advancing to the Region 2B semifinals on Tuesday night. Arlington led 19-7 at the end of the first quarter and then took a 37-13 lead into the locker room. ORR would outscore the Cardinals 13–11 in the third quarter but Arlington bounced back with an 11-8 advantage in the fourth.
The Cardinals shot 34.4% from the field and were 6-of-28 from three. Addalyn Steffensen led Arlington with 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Harley Johnson stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists and six steals. Isabelle Steffensen had 11 points and six rebounds.
ORR shot 30% from the field and were 1-of-9 from three. The Raiders were led by Julia Trygstad who had 25 points, 15 rebounds and seven steals.
Arlington is now 19-2 and will play Iroquois/Lake Preston on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Madison.
ARLINGTON – The Sharks erased a 10-point deficit and came away with the win late in the fourth quarter.
ILP trailed 18-8 at the end of the first quarter but then outscored Castlewood 17-11 in the second and trailed 29-25 at halftime. Each team scored 16 points in the third quarter and the Sharks outscored the Warriors 11-4 in the final frame to advance to the 2B semifinals.
The Sharks shot 45.5% from the field and were 5-of-15 from three. They were led by Faith Steffensen who had 12 points and seven rebounds. Adison Moore and Hadlee Holt each had 11 points. Holt also had six rebounds.
Castlewood shot 45% from the field and was 9-of-26 from three. Natalie Akin led the Warriors with 12 points.
ILP is now 10-11 and plays Arlington on Thursday.
HURON – The Dolphins led 12-9 at the end of the first quarter and then took a 25-19 lead into halftime. Deubrook extended its lead to 38-25 at the end of the third and were able to hold off the Bulldogs in the fourth to advance to the semifinals.
Kadence Bowne led the Dolphins with 14 points. Akasha Gorecki had 12 points. Kylee Johnson had eight points and Peyton Trooien had seven points.
Hazel Luethmers had a big night for De Smet as she had 26 points to lead the Bulldogs.
The Dolphins are now 9-12 and will play No. 2 seeded James Valley Christian on Thursday in Madison at 7:30 p.m.
COLMAN – Strong first and third quarters were able to lift the Hawks to the victory and they advanced to the Region 3B semifinals.
Colman-Egan led 18-13 after the first period. The Huskies then outscored the Hawks 10-6 in the second quarter and C-E led 24-23 at halftime. The Hawks were then able to pull away in the third, outscoring the Huskies 16-8 in the quarter and led 40-31 heading into the fourth. They then held a 6-4 advantage in the final quarter and advanced to the semifinals.
The Hawks shot 25.9% from the field and were 9-of-28 from three. Kaylee Voelker led the Hawks with 19 points and four rebounds. Brynlee Landis had 13 points. Presley Luze had nine points and three steals, The Hawks had 11 steals as a team.
Bridgewater-Emery shot 26.2% from the field and was 6-of-17 from beyond the arc. The Huskies were led by Oakley Weber who had 14 points and five rebounds. Summer Koch had eight points and nine rebounds.
Colman-Egan is now 14-7 and will play No. 3 seeded Howard on Thursday in Salem at 7:30 p.m. The winner of that game advances to the Class B SoDak 16.
