Deanna Marie Humes Jueschke, was born December 7, 1938. She passed away in her home on September 8, 2023. Deanna was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Helen (Olach) and Theodore Humes.
Deanna graduated from Ponca City High School in 1957.  She attended Oklahoma State University, where she paid for her own college education earning a Bachelor in degree in Music Education.
It was there she met Thomas Eugene Jueschke, who was enrolled at OSU in the College of Veterinary Medicine.  They were married on August 27, 1960, in Ponca City, OK.  A veterinary medicine job brought them to Flandreau, SD in 1962.
In 1976 Deanna and Tom broke ground for a new veterinary medicine facility. In 1977 the Flandreau Veterinary Medicine Clinic opened. Deanna managed the business aspect of the practice which allowed Tom to focus on veterinary medicine.  They made a great team.
When time permitted, Deanna and Tom enjoyed fishing, sailing, and a shared love of gardening - both vegetable and flower gardens - which they shared freely with others. Deanna was particularly fond of roses and put much of herself and time into her roses.  Rarely a summer evening passed that you would not find them outside tending to their many gardens.
On Oct 2, 1987, their only son was killed in a car accident.  Although that sorrow strengthened their marriage, the loss changed them both.  For Deanna the grief was unrelenting.  In honor of their son, the David Michael Jueschke Memorial Fund was established.  The results of that fund can be seen in the Flandreau Public Library, the Flandreau City Park, scholarships for vocational school and funding for community projects.
Plans for a much-awaited retirement were cut short when Tom was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia.  Deanna made it possible for Tom to remain in their home under the watchful eyes of family until his passing in January 2017.
In June of 2018 Deanna suffered a severe stroke. Through her remarkable strength of will and the dedicated staff at an exceptional rehabilitation facility she was able to return home.  She remained in her home, with help from family until her passing.
She is survived by her daughter Tara and spouse (Cecele), Flandreau; a brother Earl Eugene Humes (Ann) Owasa, OK and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Helen, and Ted Humes (Ponca City, OK), her husband, Thomas Eugene, her son David Michael, a brother, James T. Humes (Fort Dodge, Iowa} and a favorite aunt, Mary Cooper (Seattle, WA).
Per Deanna’s wishes no services are planned. She wanted only to be placed next to her husband and son. To those who are so inclined, a donation to the David Michael Jueschke Memorial thru the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation, 200 N. Cherapa Place, Sioux Falls, South Dakota 57103-2205  Phone: (605) 336-7055 would be greatly appreciated.
Those who loved her grieve deeply over her passing. May memories of my mother, Deanna Humes Jueschke, be as blessings and to the merit of her eternal soul.
