Charles R. Elfhoff, 96, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away Monday, June 6, 2022 at the Bethany Home, Sioux Falls.
Charles was born August 31, 1925 at a farmhouse one mile north of Colman, SD to Fred and Jessie (Dunlap) Elhoff. He graduated from Colman High School in 1943. Charles married Betty Zarecky on May 27, 1946 in Colman. They farmed by Colman until 1985. He worked long hours tilling the ground, milking cows, and raising cattle and sheep yet he found time to attend many of his children’s activities. They moved to Sioux Falls in 1989 and he sold insurance with Farmers Insurance Group for 19 years. Charles enjoyed the relationships he had with his insurance clients. They moved to Arizona in 2007 and his wife passed away November 11, 2010. She was the love of his life and favorite dance partner. Charles moved back to South Dakota in June 2011.
He lived at Sunnycrest Independent Living from June 2011 until December 2020. Charles moved to Bethany Home Assisted Living in January 2021 where he was now living. And in his last years, he enjoyed his contacts with various healthcare facility staffs and doctors, especially “teasing” the nurses and front office receptionists. He was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church and served on the Colman school board for 12 years. Charles loved his family and cherished each moment spent with them. There is an ending to everything except our love for you.
Charles is survived by four children, Charles Jr. (Linda), Southlake, TX; David (Sarah), Coronado, CA; LeAnne (Michael), Gilbert, AZ; and Jeffrey (Pam), Lennox, SD; eight grandchildren, Heidi, Heather, Amy, Emily, Kelsey, Carly, Justin, and Sarah; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, parents, and siblings, Elaine Rudd, Audrey Elhoff, Benji Elhoff, Betty Stearns, and  Harriet Kleinsasser.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, June 17, 2022 at Sunnycrest United Methodist Church, Sioux Falls, with burial in Colman Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 pm Thursday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Colman, and one hour preceding the funeral at the church.
