Colman-Egan’s Julie Preheim was named Girls’ Track & Field Coach of the Year by the South Dakota High School Coaches’ Association.
“It is an honor to win Coach of the Year,” she said. “This award is a huge reflection on the young ladies that we have in our program. They are hardworking, dedicated athletes that are always putting the time in to get better. They are willing to step up and do whatever us coaches ask them to do for the betterment of our program.
“This award is also a reflection on my assistant coaches, who have contributed immensely to our success.”
The Hawk girls racked up a record-tying 116 team points to easily outdistance the field and win the title in the Class B State Track & Field Meet on May 28-29 at O’Harra Stadium in Rapid City. Dell Rapids St. Mary (66) was second.
“We have a very talented group of girls,” added Preheim. “They had a very successful season, winning just about every track meet they participated in. We have several girls that can step in and run any event we put them in and compete at a high level.
“We qualified to participate in 15 events at the state track meet; we were only able to put the girls in 13 of those events due to event limitations and time between events.
“Of those 13 events the girls participated in, they won eight and placed second or third in four other events.”
CE posted top-three finishes in all five relays, including a trio of victories.
