Improvements coming to downtown Flandreau park

Lawn service crews removed old landscaping and worked this past week on improvements to a downtown park area in Flandreau. The changes come as the city looks to update its look and opportunities for the space to be used more frequently by members of the community.
The small park, often called the Bank or Downtown Park, is just across 2nd Avenue from the Flandreau Bakery. It was installed and donated by First National Bank in the early 2000’s after the buildings that stood there for generations were torn down due to disrepair.
City Administrator Cohl Turnquist said that the City is, “completing a significant landscaping upgrade, as well as removing areas that have deteriorated or do not best serve the community.”
Improvements were also made recently to the facade of City Hall. The exterior renovation replaced sections of the building that showed significant damage along the lower section. The City is also pursuing the purchase of an LED sign for the front of the building sometime later this year.
