Betty Lorraine Smith (Gulick) died peacefully at her residence at Palm Cottages in Rockledge, Florida on October 31, 2023. Betty was born August 31st, 1930 in Flandreau, South Dakota to Cecil and Lillian Gulick and was the oldest of 3 children. She is predeceased by her husband, Leland (Diney) Smith, her son, Charles “Chuck” Smith, and brothers Dwayne Gulick, Kenneth Gulick and her parents.
Betty grew up and attended school in Flandreau, graduating from Flandreau High School. She attended nursing school in Chicago, Illinois where she graduated with a nursing degree.  She began work as an Registered Nurse in Watertown, South Dakota where she met her husband Diney Smith. After retiring in Warner Robins, Georgia, Betty and Diney enjoyed traveling to South Dakota to visit extended family and taking care of their three Dachsunds. After Diney died, Betty moved to Rockledge, Florida to be closer to her brother Ken and his family. She spent her days reading, taking walks with her dog, Casey, and enjoying meals out at  local restaurants.  With declining health, Betty eventually moved to an independant care facility, Palm Cottages, but still enjoyed the occasional outings with family and friends.
Betty remained a loving woman to her family whose humor and laughter never diminished, always giving everyone a big smile. She was loved by everyone who knew her and leaves behind a legacy of compassion, warmth and kindness.
A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, January 13th, 2024 at Parkway Memorial Gardens in Warner Robins, Georgia at 1:00pm.  In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made in her name to your local animal shelter.
