The annual weekend-long Riverside Park Days event in Flandreau will begin on Saturday, August 5.

Saturday

At 8 a.m. on Saturday, a new addition to the weekend will be Yoga in the Park, free to anyone who wants to attend. The co-ed slow pitch softball tournament will begin at 9 a.m.

From 10-5 p.m., there will be free bouncy houses and a dunk tank, for which proceeds will go towards the Moody County Boys and Girls Club. Free Balloon Twister will take place from 12-4 p.m.

Live entertainment on Saturday begins at 11 a.m. with the opening ceremonies, featuring a flag ceremony, the National Anthem, a drum song and a performance by the Summer Recreational Dance Program.

Then at noon, Gene Hovland will provide Dixieland music and at 3 p.m., Kenton, Keldon and Elisabetta James will perform as the Sons of Sans Arc.

The bean bag tournament will start at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Cardinals outfield. Registration is open at the Japanese Gardens until 7 p.m.

There will also be live outdoor music by Jarrod Lee and Terry McKenzie, performing as the The Pocket Ducks, that will continue until midnight.

Food during the evening will be provided by Jeff and Lynn Pester.

“Even if you don’t want to participate in the bean bag tournament, come out, bring a lawn chair and listen to the music,” said event organizer Kelley Ramsdell. “It’s just a fun activity for people to hang out.”

Sunday

On Sunday, August 6, the Team of Angels will serve a French toast brunch at Japanese Gardens beginning at 8 a.m. and running until 12:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend a community church service organized by the Ministerial Association at 10 a.m.

Another new addition to Park Days this year is a Bloody Mary bar, sponsored by Riverside Park Days committee, which will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

From 11-3 p.m., there will be a free putting green and free face painting. A free bubble bash runs from 12-2 p.m. along with the dunk tank and the Great Plains Zoo mobile.

At noon, a home run derby will begin and costs $10 per person to enter. The classic car show starts at noon. Participants will first drive through town before settling at the park. Those interested in entering the car show can come to 805 W. Pipestone Ave. between 11 a.m. and noon. Contact Leon at (605) 929-7318 with any questions.

Additional live entertainment on Sunday will include Terry McKenzie at 11:30 a.m. and a performance by the Flandreau City Band at 1 p.m.

Ramsdell said this year Park Days will have 45 food and craft vendors at the park from 10-5 p.m. on Saturday and 10-3 p.m. on Sunday.
