First class of CE Hall of Fame inductees announced

Posted

Mark your calendars, Colman and Egan fans. May 16th is going to be a big celebration.
Colman-Egan Athletic Director Brant Deutsch, who is helping organize the first-ever CE Hall of Fame, said people from as far away as Ohio, Illinois, and Arizona, have called already to say they are coming for the inaugural induction ceremony. Most are coming to support a family member, and they are excited to be a part of the event.
It’s what Deutsch and the selection committee, which includes Tom Ehrichs, Bonnie Hemmer, Norm Koehn, Pete Entringer, Terry Stulken, Bob Landis, Richie Westover and Vince Nelson, have hoped for.
“We are really looking forward to honoring these inductees. As I have found out over the past year, it was extremely difficult to narrow down the list to the current one we have. Our Hall of Fame was designed to include everyone,” said Deutsch.
The goal is to highlight the achievements of outstanding students, coaches or contributors in the local communities. A ceremony each year will highlight the latest round of athletes recognized for their accomplishments.
The first class of honorees includes:
John DeLay, who holds the current school record in Shot Put with a throw of 50’ 02”, held records for SDSU as well.
Bill Dobbs, a Colman graduate who holds numerous track records for the Wildcats.

Phil Dobbs, a Colman graduate who coached for over 30 years in Wisconsin.
Pete Entringer, a Colman graduate who was and is not only a great athlete, but a contributor as well.
Ralph Flanagan, an Egan Graduate.
Roger Fritz, the Superintendent for over 40 years. Fritz was “a dedicated educator who has done more than his share for CE.”
Bob Groos, a Colman Graduate who went on to play football at SDSU and worked in the school district for years.
Sarah Keupp, a graduate and National Scholar Student.
Cami Koehn, CE’s all-time leading points scorer for GBB who also played college ball at Augustana.
Justin Landis, a CE graduate who served as captain for the 1998 State Football Champions, and who also played for SDSU and the Sioux Falls Storm.
David Martinson, an Egan Graduate. Martinson was also a Band Director of the year, teaches at Black Hills State University, and played alongside many other professional musicians.
Tony Pfeiffer, a CE graduate and National Scholar Student who went on to study medicine and is a doctor today.
Gary Reed, an Egan graduate who played basketball for five years, four at USF. He was also a National Official of the Year, with a Distinguished Service Award added to his name and accomplishments.
Terry Stulken, a long-time principal for CE, the SDHSAA Board of Directors President, and SDIAAA Hall of Fame member.
Mark Westover, an Egan multi-sport Graduate and athlete.
“We are looking forward to honoring these individual inductees as well as the state championship teams,” said Deutsch. “Personally, I am really looking forward to getting to hear some of their stories about their times as a Bluebird, Bluejay, Wildcat, Charger or Hawk.”
