Updates being made to Flandreau Golf Course

Posted

After years of flooding and other challenges at River’s Bend Golf Course in Flandreau, the course this year is getting some much-needed love and attention. Currently a work-in-progress, local golfers say that they’re excited about what it means for the beautiful little 9-hole riverside course they’ve known for generations.
“Updates at the course include rewiring sprinkler systems, adding in a VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) for the irrigation pumps to decrease hammering of pressure when pumps turn on, and continual repair/replacement of sprinkler heads,” Jason Ramsdell offered earlier this week as to the commitment the board and loyal local golfers are making to the course.

The greens, he stated, are going to be a work in progress. Ramsdell stated that due to excessive winter kill, the greens have been verti-cut in multiple directions, reseeded and sanded. That was at the beginning of May.
Since then, the greens have been getting watered daily for the seed to germinate, establish good growth and be revived.
“We will be opening greens as they are healed which more than likely will be one green at a time over the next couple weeks,” said Ramsdell.
As a result, green fees at this time have been at a reduced rate, since the course is not fully playable and the “cup” is now located in front of each green. The course itself however is fully staffed with two working full-time, three part-time, and one volunteer helping to make the course fully playable as quickly as possible.
