RAPID CITY – Colman-Egan cruised to the team title during the Class B Girls’ State Track & Field Meet on Friday and Saturday at O’Harra Stadium.
It was the first championship for a girls track team since 2002.
The Hawks racked up 116 team points to easily outdistance Dakota Valley Conference foe Dell Rapids St. Mary (66). Their 116 team points tied a state record for most points scored by a team.
At State track there are 19 scored events. The Hawk girls placed in the topthree in 12 of events, taking first in seven of them.
Colman-Egan posted top-three finishes in all five relays, including a trio of victories.
Olivia Baumberger, Elizabeth Moore, Daniela Lee and Josie Mousel won the 4x100-meters in 49.95 seconds and the 4x200 with a 1:45.52 clocking.
Presley Luze, Brynlee Landis, Elaina Rhode and Reese Luze took the 4x800 with a time of 10:11.62.
Mackenzie Hemmer was a double victor.
She crossed first in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.59 seconds. She won the triple jump with a mark of 37 feet, 2 inches.
Mousel successfully defended her high jump crown for the second time, winning with a leap of 5 feet, 5 inches. She won the event as a seventh-grader in 2018 and an eighth-grader in 2019. The 2020 state meet was not contested due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Baumberger was tops in the long jump with a leap of 17-11 1/2.
Reese Luze won the 800, breaking the tape in 2:23.8.
Hemmer, Landis, Baumberger and Reese Luze were runners-up in the 4x400 with a time of 4:10.43.
Lee (100; 12.48) and Hemmer (300 hurdles; 48.02) also posted second-place finishes.
Moore, Lanie Mousel, Lee and Landis teamed for a third-place showing in the medley in 4:26.33.
Reese Luze added a third-place finish in the 300 hurdles (48.14) to complete the team tally.
