Study committee on property tax assessment methodology to meet in Pierre

PIERRE — The Study Committee on Property Tax Assessment Methodology will hold its first meeting of the 2024 Interim on June 17 at 9 a.m. The meeting is being conducted via electronic conference and in Room 362 of the State Capitol in Pierre to allow for both remote and in-person participation.

The committee, co-chaired by Sen. Randy Deibert (R-Spearfish) and Rep. Drew Peterson (R-Salem), will receive an explanation of state statutes on property tax assessment from the Department of Revenue; hear testimony from directors of equalization from Brookings and Pennington counties; and discuss the Agricultural Land Task Force. In addition to Sen. Deibert and Rep. Peterson, members include Sens. Jean Hunhoff (R-Yankton), Liz Larson (D-Sioux Falls), Al Novstrup (R-Aberdeen), and Larry Zikmund (R-Sioux Falls); and Reps. Kirk Chaffee (R-Whitewood), Mary Fitzgerald (R-Spearfish), Ernie Otten (R-Tea), Marty Overweg (R-New Holland) and Tim Reisch (R-Howard).
