Whether it is the fresh produce, baked goods, flowers or other local wares, there is just something about a farmer’s market that is a natural draw.  
After years without one, or even the one grower — Hobbie Farms, that was a delicious and appreciated constant in and around the Flandreau community for years, a small group of community members are working to reintroduce a new market into the community.
The goal will be a start date of June 16th on the east side sidewalk of the Moody County Courthouse. Vendors plan to set up along the Crescent Street side of the block between 5:30 - 7:30 pm each Thursday night through early fall to coincide with what are usually fairly busy evenings in town.

A requirement is that any goods sold must be handcrafted or homegrown by market participants.
“In a community, building strong fellowship is one way to grow the community stronger together,” said Jenny Callahan, a rural Flandreau resident, helping the farmer’s market get started. “ We have only lived in Flandreau for a few years, we haven’t seen a local farmer’s market in town since we have lived here, I think it is a great event to bring communities together. I am excited to see where the market blossoms over time!”
“We have a large garden, we would enjoy sharing our surplus with the community of Flandreau and we hope to see the Farmer’s Market be a great success,” added her husband, Randy.
The group, which currently includes two to three other growers and possibly one food cart, is looking for other local and regional vendors to join them.
