Registration open now for Flandreau Summer Rec programs

Made plans yet for your kids this summer?
Registration is now open for weekday camps in Flandreau. Whether your kids love science, sports, art, and more, there are any number of camps available again this year for your young student to take advantage of.
You may just need to act quickly to get them registered.
Registration is open through May 15th. Forms in both English and Spanish went home with students this past week. If you haven’t seen the form and are interested to learn more, forms can also be obtained by stopping into the Elementary and Middle School Offices or Flandreau City Office.

Not sure if camp is right for your children? Research shows that camps, even non-academic camps, can help students avoid what is commonly referred to as the “summer slide”. Children can lose up to two months of academic progress over the summer break, particularly in subjects like math and reading.
Recreational programs like those offered locally offer not only fun, but also an engaging environment where kids keep learning, important so that when they return to school in the fall, they continue learning versus play catch-up.
Camps also offer a great resource to kids who might otherwise feel isolated over the summer. Rec programs typically provide a supportive community where kids make friends, learn teamwork, and develop other valuable interpersonal skills that build self-esteem and confidence.
“These are safe spaces for your kids to be active and involved,” said Emma Peters, Director of the Summer Rec Programs for the City of Flandreau.
“It’s also just a great way for kids to spend time with their classmates and meet new friends. I also think it’s good for the overall well-being of a child to be outdoors and be active as much as possible.”
Parents with questions, you are encouraged to call City Office or reach out to Peters directly at (605) 450-0406.
