Posted

The Flandreau Fliers are getting ready to show their purple and gold pride next week during their homecoming activities. The theme for this year will be western entitled “Giddy Up Fliers!”
Events will kick off with Little Orpheum taking place on Monday, September 18, at 7 pm. Along with skits performed by each class, staff, and different organizations the crowning of the King and Queen will take place.
Candidates for King are, back from left, Lanz Dailey, Cyrus Fox, Tanner Reed, Kamryn Grengs, and Matthew Gassman. Queen candidates are Luz Salazar, Lizzie Pavlis, Claire Sheppard, Bre Ramirez and Bella Olinger.

Students will get to participate in dress up days throughout the week with Monday being Pajama Day. I had to do a little research on Tuesdays theme of Barbenheimer Day. The day is supposed to commemorate the release of Barbie, a super fun upbeat movie showing the life of Barbie and Oppenheimer, a movie on the darker side showing the development of the atomic bomb, both movies were released on the same day. Wednesday the kids will bust out their cameras for “Tacky Tourist Day” and Thursday will be Throwback Thursday. Friday everyone will need to bust out their purple and gold for School Spirit Day.
Boys Golf and Volleyball will start the week off with sports. Volleyball will take the court on Tuesday September 19 at Montrose against the McCook Central/Montrose Cougars. Actions kicks off at the net at 5 pm with the “C” team first. The boys’ golf team will travel to the Watertown Invite with tee time being at 10 am.
Thursday will be the next day any Fliers will be soaring as the Cross-Country team will head to Clark to compete in the Clark/Willow Lake meet. Shotgun start begins at 10 am. Volleyball will be back at the net again, this time at home. They will take on Dell Rapids with the “C” team taking the court at 5 pm.
There will be a parade on Friday beginning at 1 p.m. followed by a pep rally at the Flier Booster Club stadium. In case of inclement weather, it will be held in the high school gym.
The Flier Booster Club is hosting a Tailgate Party Friday before the football game on the practice field. There will be food and Flier gear vendors. More information in the adverstisement below.
Friday is a night on the grid iron as the Flier football team faces off against the Huskies of Elk Point-Jefferson. Kick off is at 7 pm. Grab your blanket and throw on your purple and gold. We’ll see you there.
